College students across the East Midlands are celebrating their A Level exam results today as many prepare to go on to higher education or embark on apprenticeships.
Across the East Midlands almost 98% of exam entrants received a grade A* to E, with more than 7% achieving an A* and almost a quarter getting an A or higher – all three statistics very close to meeting the national average.
In Derbyshire, Derby College maintained its 98% pass rate, with more than 20 subjects recording a 100% pass rate including English, politics, modern languages, law, ICT and biology.
Chesterfield College celebrated a 95% pass rate with three quarters of subjects achieving 100% and in Sheffield almost a quarter of The Sheffield College students achieved grades A* to B with the overall A Level pass rate at 93%.
In Nottinghamshire, West Nottinghamshire College announced their incredible 99% pass rate live on Mansfield 103.2 radio and the Nottingham Post was tracking live updates of Nottingham’s results, where Bilborough College also achieved a pass rate of above 99%. The college achieved an outstanding 100% success rate in 27 subjects.
Meanwhile at New College Nottingham star of Channel 4’s Humans, Lucy Carless, succeeded in achieving three B grades despite studying alongside filming for the second series of the show.
“It’s been a challenge juggling filming with my studies, but I really wanted to do it. The college has been really supportive with my filming schedule and I’m so pleased that I have managed to do both.”
Across the border in Lincolnshire, Lincoln College Group maintained a strong A Level performance with a 97% pass rate at A2 with particular success in maths, where almost half of the students sitting A2 exams achieved A* to B grades.
New College Stamford is also celebrating 100% pass rates in 14 subjects, while North Lindsey College achieve 100% success in applied business, English, human biology, physics and sociology.
Over in Leicestershire, Regent College has seen a rise in achievement of the highest grades with almost double the percentage of the top A* and A grades compared to last year. The college has also achieved a 100% pass rate in 14 subjects.
Loughborough College is also celebrating a boost in top grades, with nearly three quarters of students securing A* to C grades and 16 subjects achieving a 100% pass rate.
And finally in Northamptonshire, Northampton College celebrated a seven-year high in results with a 90% pass rate at A2 and with A* to C grades at 12% above the national average.
