ABC Awards was delighted to sponsor this year’s Teacher of the Year award at the tes FE awards, held on the 27 February, at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London. The evening, hosted by comedian David Baddiel, celebrated the very best in the further education sector.

Speaking of the awards, Paul Eeles, Chief Executive of ABC Awards, said:

“It was absolutely fantastic to be able to sponsor the tes FE Teacher of the Year which seeks to reward an individual whose imagination and passion has transformed a course and inspired students.

“This year’s category was tightly competed and there were a number of excellent nominees; but only one could take home the award and I was delighted to be able to present Peter Wright, of Blackpool Sixth Form College, the award for Teacher of the Year 2015.”

Peter started his career teaching classic civilisation and soon took over the leadership of the subject a year later and saw student numbers rocket from 50 to 200. Judges of the award for this year’s Teacher of the Year said: “It was truly moving to read testimonials from staff and students, showing the many lives Peter has positively touched”. Learners from Blackpool Sixth Form College also described how Peter “was able to transform the rather mundane and alien world of the ancients into an exciting learning experience”.

Peter has achieved ‘outstanding value-added’ at AS Level and A Level and is always finding new ways to communicate his love of ancient history; from attempting to teach his students live from the Acropolis of Athens; through to hosting a ‘Who Killed Caesar?’ tasting session for Year 10s; and along with students dressed as Romans, has invaded two local primary schools to bring pupils’ learning alive.

Peter clearly is an inspiring teacher and truly deserves to be this year’s tes FE Teacher of the Year.
