On the 27 and 31 January 2017 we saw the first two Collaborative Practice Development Days take place in the South West at the Royal Cornwall Pavilion and in London at the TUC Congress Centre. Over 180 practitioners attended the events with the joint purpose of learning, collaborating and networking.
The Collaborative Practice Development Days, funded by The Education and Training Foundation, delivered in collaboration with emfec, were set up to provide a platform for practitioners to enhance their skills in teaching, learning and assessment.
Riikka Vihriälä, from AoC London, who delivered the second event said:
“The Collaborative Practice Development Day in London was a great opportunity for delegates to collaborate with peers, exchange good practice and enhance their skills in teaching, learning and assessment. It was great to see the level of engagement and networking during the workshops and marketplace activities.
“We’ve received some very positive feedback from delegates and presenters who found the event enjoyable and valuable. We hope to do this again next year!”
During the events the following key topics were covered such as; English and maths, SEND, professional standards and achievement for all, with discussions led by expert practitioners. At both events Paul Kessell-Holland, Head of Partnerships at the Education and Training Foundation, kicked off the event with a keynote speech, followed by several sector experts, heads of colleges, curriculum managers and subject leaders.
As well as interactive workshops, the events held a ‘marketplace’ with providers from across the sector sharing effective practice on what has worked in their organisations and how.
There are several more Collaborative Training Days coming up, including our East Midlands event happening on the 13 March: The Power of Collaboration. This particular event will focus on some key challenges facing the further education sector. A range of interactive workshops will include; supporting learners in emotional distress and/or with mental health needs, skills competitions to motivate individuals, engaging and managing employer relationships and improving safeguarding and prevent.
