The Skills and Education Group has added two major new features to its membership package.
In November, the Group launched an online Hub, which allows members to connect with each other, book their free places at professional development networks, and keep in touch with those they meet at events.
In the same month, the Group opened grant applications through the Skills and Education Group Foundation, which was formed in May. This provides member organisations with extra funding to support their learners.
These new features are available to all members, and are two of the main benefits of membership of the Group.
Members can access the Hub by creating an account on the Skills and Education Group website which gives them access to their own personal profile. Here they can add areas of interest, such as Leadership and Management, English and Maths, and Staff Development.
Each Member also has access to a personalised Dashboard. Here, they can find events and announcements tailored to their areas of interest, along with the profiles of other members with similar interests.
The Hub is complemented by a new booking system for the Group’s regular professional development networks and TeachMeets, making it easier to browse events, book free places and make payments.
The Hub also contains a Membership Directory and a My Events section, which allows members to browse each other’s profiles and keep communicating after attending events.
Early in the New Year, a new Resources section will be added to the Hub. This will allow users to share materials that help them in their job roles, such as documents, presentations and podcasts. As well as uploading their own files, members can rate the usefulness of resources added by others.
The Foundation, meanwhile, aims to champion social mobility in the further education and skills sector. It offers grants that are designed to help learners overcome social barriers and to enable them to advance their skills in education. The Foundation will fund grants to be used for purchasing educational resources, contribution towards living and travel costs and much more.
