ABC Awards is launching a new suite of Entry Level qualifications in Practical Land-based Skills later this year to support learners in entering this dynamic area of employment.

Designed for both young people and adult learners, the Ofqual-regulated qualifications are the perfect starting point for those who want to gain practical experience and knowledge of the land-based sector while also developing personal and social skills.

The qualifications, developed with Landex, combine work related land-based skills with basic employability skills to support engagement, participation and achievement.

Learners taking these qualifications will gain an insight into the world of land-based work, allowing them to make informed career decisions and progress from Entry Level to further training within the industry. This could include a Level 1 land-based qualification or a traineeship or apprenticeship in this area.

The qualifications combine a range of mandatory units covering a broad understanding of the sector, including working safely in the land-based sector and environmental awareness, as well as personal and social skills and how to communicate effectively with others.

Centres may choose to offer the mandatory units for learners to gain an Entry Level 2 or 3 Award in Practical Land-based Skills, or may opt to teach additional pathways in animal care or horticulture to support their learners in working towards a Certificate or Diploma qualification.

The full suite of qualifications is listed below:

  • Entry Level 2 Award in Practical Land-based Skills
  • Entry Level 3 Award in Practical Land-based Skills
  • Entry Level 2 Certificate in Practical Land-based Skills (Animal and Agriculture)
  • Entry Level 3 Certificate in Practical Land-based Skills (Animal and Agriculture)
  • Entry Level 2 Certificate in Practical Land-based Skills (Horticulture)
  • Entry Level 3 Certificate in Practical Land-based Skills (Horticulture)
  • Entry Level 3 Diploma in Practical Land-based Skills

Each of these ABC Awards qualifications will be supported with detailed indicative content to support tutors in ensuring their learners meet each of the learning objective criteria.

Following completion of any of these qualifications, learners might progress onto ABC Awards Level 1 qualifications which cover a range of land-based areas including Practical Countryside Skills, Practical Horticulture Skills and Practical Small Animal Care Skills.

The qualifications are set to launch on 1 September 2016. To find out more or to register your interest in offering these qualifications, please email seand@abcawards.co.uk or call 0115 854 1627.
