Derby College has been chosen as one of 12 further education providers in the UK to be part of an innovative careers advice and guidance programme.
Two Derby College Services for Students team members will be specially trained under the Association of College’s targeted programme which is backed by Government funding through the national Careers & Education Company (CEC).
They will then train other curriculum and support colleagues across the college locations in Derby, Ilkeston and Morley to provide specific support students from disadvantaged background and those with special educational needs.
Derby College Director of Services for Students Helen Jefferson welcome the opportunity to be included in the programme.
She explained: “It is crucial that our students receive professional and impartial careers guidance to support them to explore opportunities, identify options that suit their aspirations, skills and talents and enable them to make well informed realistic career decisions.
“The CEC Personal Guidance fund project enables Derby College to further expand careers guidance services by upskilling our employees and expanding the careers guidance team to ensure that our students can access careers guidance which is current, informed and timely.
“Derby College is committed to actively maintaining a Quality in Careers Standard Award and have been awarded the Career Mark Gold Award for the fourth consecutive time earlier this year.
“This assessment focussed on the student experience, feedback and outcomes and reconfirmed that student satisfaction with Careers Advice Services at Derby College remains high.”
Claudia Harris, Chief Executive of the Careers & Enterprise Company, added: “Personal guidance is a key ingredient of good careers education.
“We know there are already countless careers professionals doing really effective and innovative work and this fund is about backing and celebrating that good practice so that it can be scaled up and shared across the country.”
