Are you addressing how it stifles self-belief, aspirations and performance?

If so, this training delivered by Equality and Diversity specialist Vanessa Boon, will explore how to counteract and overcome the effects of internalised oppression in society.

Whilst people's unconscious bias towards others has long been a hot topic, internalised bias is often overlooked. Societal and media biases, stereotypes, knockbacks and put-downs are absorbed and internalised as limiting self-beliefs within people facing marginalisation and stigma.

Join us for this session to explore models of internalised oppression, and its effects on self-esteem, attainment and horizontal oppression, with examples of how this can play out among learners and employees. The session will provide opportunities to exchange experience, discuss the issues and network with colleagues and will highlight good practice tips and resources to take back with you to disrupt internalised oppression among learners and staff, to unlock everyone's full potential.

Vanessa Boon is a highly regarded trainer in the sector who is passionate about people development and diversity. Her community gift-work includes Hope not Hate, youth mentoring and the Human Library – where the books are people and Reading is a conversation and an opportunity to meet the person beyond the label (http://humanlibraryuk.org. She is also award-winning Chair (elected voluntary role) of International Women's Day Festival Derby and Chair, Derby Sound Community Radio - where local communities find their voice: https://www.derbysound.org.uk.

So, come along and join us for this informative and engaging event that will offer you or your colleagues support and guidance on how to recognise and counteract the signs and symptoms of unconscious bias.
