Loughborough College is today celebrating a rise in numbers achieving the highest A-level grades and continues its exam success story with yet another 97% pass rate.

Almost half of students at the College received A*-B – a 15% increase on last year – and those securing the top grades rose by 9%, with one in five learners achieving A* or A.

There was outstanding success for Loughborough College students in STEM subjects with 53% achieving A*-B in Maths, 44% in Biology, 40% in Physics and Chemistry and 29% in Further Maths. Computer Science recorded a 100% overall pass rate.

A total of ten subjects saw a pass rate of 100%, including English Language, English Literature, Business, Economics, Geography and Government and Politics and the College hit an overall A-level pass rate of 97% for the fourth consecutive year.

Loughborough College CEO John Doherty said: “Today we are celebrating an outstanding A-level performance with a continuing rise in the numbers achieving the highest grades, a fantastic overall pass rate and excellent performance in STEM subjects in particular.

“These students are the first to experience a major shift in how A-levels are examined, with a move away from ongoing testing and with all the pressure instead centred on the summer. So today’s results are a particular testament not only to our students’ hard work but also to our excellent teaching and support staff who, throughout the curriculum changes, have always remained focused on enabling the very best outcome for our learners.”

Loughborough College Deputy Head of Sixth Form Angela Mogridge added: “We are delighted with the performance of all our A-level students – the results not only reflect their diligence but also the dedication of the team who have helped them achieve their ambitions.

“This year marks the launch of our ambitious STEM strategy, with the aim of creating a regional centre of excellence, so it is wonderful to see such outstanding results in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Computer Science.”
