The newly-appointed Principal of New College Stamford has promised to build on its high standards and strengths after taking the helm this month.
Janet Meenaghan said the college’s road to ‘outstanding’ had begun, based on student achievement, a commitment to excellence and integrity.
She took over as Principal at the start of the new term and said she had been very impressed by both the students and staff.
“I’m delighted to be appointed as the Principal of New College Stamford and feel privileged to be working alongside such dedicated and professional staff and such a wonderful group of students,” said Janet.
“The college has a great reputation and so much potential. My job is to harness that potential and take the college onto even greater things – securing the college as an outstanding provider of education in Lincolnshire.
“We will be focusing on achievement and making sure that our students have a first class experience here. They are hard working and committed, so our aim is to help them be the best that they can be.”
Janet was formerly Deputy Principal of Selby College, which has a reputation as an ‘Outstanding’ provider and which provides guidance and assistance to other colleges on achieving excellent results in maths and English.
Prior to working at Selby College, Janet worked at further education colleges in Manchester, Peterborough and Grantham, was a lecturer at the University of Humberside and worked at the Learning and Skills Council.
Janet, who is originally from Darlington in County Durham, said: “I’m passionate about further education and providing people with an opportunity to gain new qualifications and skills.
“Our students at New College Stamford are our assets, whether they are 16 and have just left school, are adults who are looking to change their careers or are in employment and wish to upskill to gain promotion.
“We are committed to ensuring they get the best education possible and will do everything we can to help them achieve their goals.”
The new Principal said she plans to build on the A-Level offer at the college, and intends to develop both the Apprenticeship and Higher Education programmes.
“I have only been here a few weeks, but I’m already very proud of what I have seen, both with regards the students and the staff. We have exceeded our enrolment figures this year and are financially very sound. I think the future of New College Stamford is very bright.”
New College Stamford is a member college of emfec and we wish Janet all the best in her new role.
