ABC Awards offers qualifications in arboriculture, forestry and silviculture up to degree-equivalent Level 6.

These qualifications have been designed in collaboration with Lantra and the wider industry to support new and current workers in the land-based industry to upskill and progress in their careers.

Starting with the Level 2 Certificate in Arboriculture, the qualification formalises learners’ existing arboricultural knowledge and develops their potential contribution to arboriculture and associated land-based roles.

Additionally, the qualification forms the theory component of the Royal Forestry Society’s (RFS) Certificate in Arboriculture, which has set the standard for craftsman-level arborists for more than 40 years.

Higher qualifications are available up to Level 6, which is the vocational equivalent of a degree. At this level, learners who have completed the qualification will have developed invaluable research and considered new concepts and principals to improve the everyday practice of managing tree populations.

We work with a number of Centres across the UK to provide qualifications in arboriculture and one Centre who has joined us recently is The Training Tree.

The Training Tree helps to upskill people who work in the land-based industry to ensure that they remain up-to-date with the latest changes in the industry. For many learners, embarking on an ABC Awards qualification means they can gain theory knowledge to support their practical experience, expand their employment options or progress to higher education in the future.

The Training Tree currently delivers the ABC Awards Level 4 Certificate and Diploma in Arboriculture. The qualification requires learners to follow a programme of structured continuing professional development (CPD) - perfect for learners who are studying alongside their work and particularly for those pursuing managerial pathways in the industry.

The qualification is also suitable for land-based employees who work in related disciplines, including horticulture, forestry and countryside management, who wish to increase their wider industry knowledge or move into a role more focused on arboriculture.

As the team at The Training Tree were new to delivering qualifications when they began in 2015, the process of gaining Centre Approval was initially challenging but ABC Awards and our subject matter expert Moderators worked closely with The Training Tree to ensure that they met all of the right criteria to begin delivery.

Lisa Sanderson, Training Developer at The Training Tree, said:

“We always wanted to deliver the ABC Awards qualifications; that was clear to us from the start. They are well-known and sought after qualifications within our national and international industry.

“Offering the qualifications has helped us to increase student enquiries and develop bespoke packages for employers. We are also about to open two new satellite centres nationally, which is very exciting! We are looking to extend our portfolio to include additional ABC Awards qualifications and providing more quality courses for our students nationally.”

The team at The Training Tree have recently launched a new online, distance learning package for the Level 4 Diploma in Arboriculture, which is already attracting a great deal of interest due to its flexibility, quality content and access to classroom drop-in sessions when needed.

With an Award, Certificate and Diploma available at Level 4 in arboriculture, the qualifications lend themselves well for distance learning and studying in bite-sized chunks to fit in around employment.

Learners can start with the Level 4 Award and build up their credits gradually to complete the Certificate and the Diploma, with a range of units including tree biomechanics and maintenance, tree related damage to built structures, and principles of woodlands establishment and management.
