The three founding organisations of the soon-to-be Skills and Education Group are sponsoring the College/School Partnerships Beacon Award this year.

ABC Awards, ASDAN and emfec are jointly sponsoring the Association of College’s (AoC) College/School Partnerships Beacon Award in one of their first public partnerships ahead of the formation of the Skills and Education Group in June, which marks the official strategic partnership of the three organisations.

The Beacon Awards, launched in 1994, celebrate the best and most innovative practice among UK FE colleges. They are designed to promote the interdependence of colleges, businesses, professional and voluntary organisations, working together for mutual benefit.

The award for College/School Partnerships is open to all further education, sixth form and tertiary colleges who have established successful initiatives with school to support the transition for students entering further education.

Emphasis will be placed on effective advice and guidance, and close sharing of information and resources to support students to gain meaningful qualifications and employability skills that support their needs and aspirations.

The award is also open to entries from partnerships where the school has approached the college in the first instance.

Submissions for this award should provide evidence of the following:

  • Complementary curriculum delivery
  • Curriculum continuity supporting effective transition
  • Collaborative engagement
  • Consistent student support
  • Efficient and effective sharing of resources
  • Increased impact on learner achievement and progression

Paul Eeles, Designate Chief Executive of the Skills and Education Group, said:

“Each of the three organisations, ABC Awards, ASDAN and emfec are delighted to be jointly sponsoring this Beacon Award for College/School Partnerships.

“As we are three organisations embarking on a new partnership in forming the Skills and Education Group, we wanted to support this award to recognise the importance of partnership in the skills and education sector.

“As the sector faces a series of ongoing challenges, there is no better time to welcome wider collaboration between education institutions representing all ages and programmes of study.”
