You may have heard that 2020 is the year of our first ever Awards evening. It’s fair to say that we’re excited about it! Here’s everything you need to know about this new Skills and Education Group event, from details of the Awards categories to practicalities such as accommodation.
Why have we started this Awards ceremony?
The Awards are one part of the work that the Skills and Education Group Foundation does. We launched our Foundation in May 2019 to champion the role that the further education and skills sector plays in driving social mobility. Through the Awards, we can provide inspiring organisations, staff and learners with the recognition that their efforts deserve and raise awareness of their work.
What are we looking for in nominations?
Details of what we are looking for in each award category can be viewed on our website here. Generally, we want to see examples of nominees making a positive impact on the lives of others through their work.
Who can nominate, and who can be nominated?
Take a look at our Awards categories to see who is eligible for each award. The ‘Inspiring Learner of the Year’, ‘Outstanding Staff Member of the Year’ and ‘Social Impact Award’ recognise the work of our member organisations, while the other two awards concern our Skills and Education Group Awards Centres and Certa Access Providers.
There are no restrictions on who can submit a nomination - both staff and learners can do so. If you are a member of staff at a member organisation, for example, you could nominate an inspiring learner you work with, a colleague who deserves recognition, or the organisation itself for its contribution to social mobility. Meanwhile, if you work at one of our Centres or Access Providers, you can nominate your organisation for the work it does.
What does the Awards evening involve?
The Awards ceremony takes place on the evening of 13 May 2020 at the Leicester Marriott Hotel, just before our Conference on 14 May. There will be a three-course meal and a drinks reception, so it promises to be an enjoyable evening for all.
If you need somewhere to stay after the Awards Dinner, you can book accommodation at the hotel via our event page.
How do I book my place at the Awards evening?
When booking your place at the Conference on the event page, simply specify that you wish to attend the Awards evening as well. It costs an additional £45, while you can also add accommodation to your booking if required.
Remember that you can save money on your Conference ticket by taking advantage of our early-bird offer of £75, available until 31 March. Furthermore, members of the Skills and Education Group are entitled to a limited number of free places at the Conference. Feel free to contact us if you are unsure whether this applies to you.
We encourage you to take this opportunity to nominate an inspiring individual or organisation for one of our Awards. You have until 20 March – submit your nominations here.
We also hope to see you at the Awards evening in May – book your place here.
