Baasit Siddiqui, a regular on the Channel 4 show Gogglebox, was the opening speaker at Nottingham College ’s Performing Arts Expo on 30 January. He spoke to students about his own industry experience, shared business tips for their future working life, and chatted to them about their career goals.
Baasit is an experienced teacher, as well as appearing regularly on the Channel 4 show, and he also runs an education workshop company, Siddiqui Education.
Niamh Perkins studies musical theatre at the College. After listening to Baasit talk about his own career journey, she said: “Baasit’s talk really opened my eyes to grasping opportunities.”
The Expo was an opportunity for acting, dance and musical theatre students to get real insight from performing arts professionals. They also took part in practical workshops.
Former Nottingham College students and other industry experts also supported the two-day event.
Baasit’s visit was funded by DANCOP, the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Collaborative Outreach Programme.
DANCOP is a partnership of universities and colleges across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, working together to raise the aspirations of young people and support them to consider their futures, as part of a national government initiative to increase the number of young people from underrepresented groups who go into higher education.
