Last week, ABC Showcase Centre, Fashion Enter, launched its brand new Fashion Technology Academy (FTA). Over 200 guests attended the event in Haringey’s manufacturing district London N4.
The academy is a collaborative initiative with Haringey Council, who have invested over £570,000 in the venture, to train the next generation of production workers in order to ensure key skills in fashion manufacturing are retained and developed in the UK. The academy, supported by ASOS, is the first apparel manufacturing training academy in the country to operate alongside a live factory environment, ensuring that students gain experience whilst studying for their Level 1 qualification.
Guests were treated to a runaway showcase courtesy of the upcoming ‘looksgreat’ website, featuring stunning new work from ten emerging designers.
However, the night’s shining stars also included a selection of Fashion Enter’s current cohort of learners who were rewarded for their hard work and dedication with Skills Awards.
Jenny Holloway, CEO of Fashion Enter, said:
“We really believe that the Fashion Technology Academy is the single most important initiative we have ever undertaken. We will be able to help thousands of people gain real work based skills that will lead to employment. With the on-shoring of garment manufacturing that is occurring now the timing of the Fashion Technology Academy is perfect. Our sincere gratitude to Haringey Council and DWP for their overwhelming support.”
Fiona Grant, Director of Awarding Services at ABC Awards, said:
“It was a pleasure to attend the launch of the new Fashion Technology Academy and celebrate learner success in style. The academy is allowing aspiring young fashion producers to gain work experience for brands they know and love while also gaining valuable qualifications that will help their careers progress.”
Following the launch, Fashion Enter joined ABC Awards at the Houses of Commons for its annual Parliamentary Reception celebrating the year’s achievements.
