ABC Awards has worked very closely with the Royal Forestry Society (RFS) for 15 years.  The relationship first started as the industry was looking for an Awarding Body to accredit the qualifications onto the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and more recently onto the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

The qualifications offer a professional route of study starting with the Level 2 Certificate in Arboriculture at craft level, a Level 4 Certificate at supervisory level and a Level 6 Professional Diploma at management level.

The current qualifications offer learners a wider choice of flexible study and can lead them toward chartered status. The Royal Forestry Society endorses ABC Awards qualifications in Arboriculture at Levels 2 through to 6. The Qualifications in Arboriculture accredited by ABC Awards include:

  • C9300-02 - ABC Level 2 Certificate in Arboriculture (501/1411/6)
  •  A9300-04 ABC Level 4 Award in Arboriculture (600/2490/2)
  •  C9300-04 ABC Level 4 Certificate in Arboriculture (600/2698/4)
  •  D9300-04 ABC Level 4 Diploma in Arboriculture (600/2582/7)
  •  C9300-06 ABC Level 6 Certificate in Arboriculture (600/2586/4)
  •  D9300-06 ABC Level 6 Diploma in Arboriculture (600/2785/X)

On completion of the Level 2 Certificate in Arboriculture, aspiring hands-on Arborists should consider completing the appropriate competence tests to validate their practical ability and be awarded the RFS Certificate in Arboriculture.

This long standing RFS qualification is widely recognised across arboriculture and forestry industries in both the private and public sectors. Details of the practical tests offered by RFS can be found here.

About Royal Forestry Society

The RFS is a national educational charity serving all of England, Wales and Northern Ireland through its 21 divisions.  We promote the wise management of trees and woodlands so that Britain's woodland life may be conserved, expanded and improved.

The RFS was founded in 1882.  Today we have almost 4,000 members; people from all walks of life including woodland owners, managers, arboriculturists, foresters, ecologists, conservationists, students and interested amateurs, all with a common interest in trees and their welfare and a desire to share and widen their knowledge.

For over 40 years the Royal Forestry Society's Certificate in Arboriculture has set the standard for craftsmen-level arborists and the Professional Diploma in Arboriculture has been the premier qualification for managers.

RFS qualifications are widely recognised throughout the arboricultural industry as proof that the holder has sound theoretical knowledge of arboriculture and is proficient in the practical skills needed to succeed at craft or strategic management level.
