Following on from the success of our previous TeachMeets, as part their Festival of Learning, York College is holding an #FEResearchMeet on Wednesday 7 July 2021. The team at York College would like to invite you to attend their Festival in the morning, before hearing from keynote speaker Dr Jonathan Tummons and a range of other educational researchers after lunch.
Jonathan taught in adult and further education for fifteen years before taking up a university position. He is the editor of PCET: Learning and Teaching in the Post-Compulsory Sector and co-author of Teaching in Further Education as well as a number of other books.
Jonathan is currently teaching postgraduate modules relating to social theory, curriculum theory, and qualitative research methodologies and is interested in using ethnographic methods to explore the everyday practices of students and teachers in a variety of contexts. Other elements of his work draw on communities of practice theory and actor-network theory. Professionalism and professional standards in teacher education, with specific reference to the post-compulsory education sector in England, is of particular interest; and to support the quality of provision, Jonathan is a member of the Ofsted Further Education and Skills Research Reference Group. This group advises Ofsted of relevant research to inform the development of the Ofsted inspection framework.
The event will focus on educational research, offering post-16 educators an opportunity to come together to share practice, learn from each other and collaborate. Following Jonathan's address, delegates will be able to choose up to two workshops facilitated by a variety of educators in the sector. These researchers will share their findings before coming together for the final plenary session.
Workshop details are to follow shortly. If you are interested in sharing your research and would like to present a workshop, please contact Mike Saunders, Head of Quality Improvement, York College (email: firstname.lastname@example.org)
We are delighted to be offering this #FEResearchMeet in conjunction with York College and to announce that this exciting event is planned to take place in person. Numbers will therefore be limited, so it is important for external delegates to book their place as soon as possible.
