The future of transport and logistics, solving climate change issues, and the latest developments in games design and virtual and augmented reality will be the hot topics on the agenda as part of an online showcase designed to promote careers during National Apprenticeship Week (7 – 11 February 2022).
North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (NWSLC) is planning a week of events and online activities to showcase careers and apprenticeships in partnership with high-profile employers and major brands including SKY, Wincanton, HORIBA MIRA, Polestar, and Severn Trent.
NWSLC will host a virtual ‘STEAM into Your Future’ event on Tuesday 8 February and Wednesday 9 February 2022 aimed at promoting careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM). Visitors will be able to access presentations on the latest career developments, hear from inspirational speakers in topical webinars, and take part in live Q&A sessions.
During the week, the college will throw open its doors at its Hinckley and Wigston Campuses on Monday 7 February 2022 and its Nuneaton and Harrowbrook Campuses on Thursday 10 February 2022, so that visitors can explore the facilities, talk to current students, and seek advice from tutors. For those exploring apprenticeships for the first time, there will be a chance to sign up for a place in the college’s talent pool and gain access to exclusive vacancies available only with NWSLC.
In a special focus on the automotive manufacturing engineering sector, visitors will be able to hear from employers and try out the immersive virtual reality training tool AutoLive, which is based on gaming technology.
The activities are part of the 15th annual National Apprenticeship Week, based on the theme of ‘Build the Future’, which is a week-long celebration encouraging individuals of any age to reach their career goals by building their skills and knowledge through an apprenticeship.
Whether visitors are thinking about choices post-16, contemplating a career change, wanting to upskill and get a new job, or enter higher education, tutors will be on hand to advise them. There will be ‘have a go’ activities for each curriculum area where visitors can find out more and try their hand at a range of skills. From exploring a photography studio to seeing an engineering workshop in action, visitors can get a taste of what college life is all about. The event will include drop-in sessions with information on the costs of coming to college, student support and travel advice.
Marion Plant, OBE FCGI, Principal and Chief Executive of NWSLC said: “We’re delighted to welcome prospective students to our fabulous campuses and online platforms as part of this high-profile week. Most of our courses are highly practical and creative, so there is always a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere in college.
“The current employment market is extremely buoyant and there are so many opportunities, especially in the digital, healthcare, logistics and construction sectors. Working with hundreds of employers, we are well placed to advise on the latest industry trends and the best routes into exciting career paths.”
