Hi, I’m Zach and this is my monthly diary as a Marketing Apprentice at Skills and Education Group.
I’ve been amazed by how much I’ve learned in my role in such a short space of time and I feel proud of all the marketing and communications skills that I am developing at work.
Mentor teaching Mentee
In fact, I have learnt so much that roles have reversed, and I have been able to teach my mentor something. My team has really helped me learn and develop my skills to the point that I can help other people! I recently showed my mentor different video editing techniques using Headliner and Canva. Teaching someone else has been a great way to solidify my understanding.
Recruitment video
As my skills develop, I am gaining more responsibilities. One of the projects that I am leading on is creating recruitment videos for the Skills and Education Group social media channels. I have been working with Nathan, our Recruitment Consultant, to organise and schedule filming dates and determine who will participate. I created a Miro board and Teams chat to organise our plans and keep everyone updated. On Tuesday 3rd September Katie, Mariama and I ran a test filming session to check the equipment, this was a fun and useful experience. We explored which equipment, tools and techniques would work best for the videos and how to use them effectively. Overall, this has been a brilliant opportunity, and I am enjoying orchestrating these videos.
College
The growth keeps coming and another positive development is that my tutor recently came into my workplace to talk to me and my manager. This was a valuable opportunity to learn more about my apprenticeship and to schedule a dedicated off-the-job day for me to focus on my college work, which is now on Wednesdays. I’m very pleased to have started my college work, as I have been really looking forward to this next step.
I have also been quite busy this month socially too…
Birthday
It was my Birthday on the 30th August and I’m finally 18! A special milestone made even more memorable by working at Skills and Education Group.
Although I had the day off, my team surprised me with a thoughtful birthday presentation. They gave me a ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ card, which was really nice as I love Tim Burton and it was the first time I had a card with Zach on the front which made me really happy. They also gave me a Coraline doll (my favourite movie). Their thoughtful gifts meant a lot to me. My friend Rahima gave me a wonderful present, She remembered blue sweets are my favourite and also got me a spirited away key chain and pin as well as a spirited away card. It was heartwarming to receive so many well wishes from my friends and colleagues
Being healthier
When I was younger, I used to do sports and eat healthier, I haven’t in years. Since working at the Skills and Education Group, I have gotten more into a routine, and I have been able to start being healthier. I feel so much better mentally as I enjoy my work and being surrounded by positive people. It’s been nice coming into work early in the morning as it gives me a fresh start to the day and a nice walk. (I usually walk and get the bus to work). I enjoy getting the bus as it gives me a chance to read my book and set myself up for the day ahead. Thanks to my colleagues, Shereen and Shonyce, I have started eating breakfast which means I’m not hungry and it’s also a lot healthier.
Since starting my apprenticeship, I’ve experienced a boost in my motivation and overall enjoyment of life. I’m genuinely excited to go to work each day.
